how sweep it is

The Boston Bruins have been matched up with the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL playoffs four times this decade. Twice, in 2002 and 2004, the Bruins were the higher seed and lost, ’04 being particularly painful as Boston coughed up a 3-1 series lead in what I thought was a year in which they could have gone to the finals. Last season, as the 8th seed, Boston came back from a 3-1 series deficit to force a Game 7, only to lose once again. Obviously the rivalry goes back way further than this, but these recent series have been especially hard to take.

This year, however, things are different. This Boston team is legit, and they wasted no time disposing of their rivals, finishing off a four game sweep last night in Montreal. It brings joy to my hockey loving heart just to type those sweet words.

The man that I feel happiest for this morning is coach Claude Julien. CJ is a former coach of the Canadiens, who despite having a winning record, was fired by Habs GM Bob Gainey, at 7 am on a Saturday, over the phone no less. Brutal. I’m sure it felt pretty good to dominate the series and put the nail in the coffin of Montreal’s 100th season on Bell Centre ice.

Next up, the Bruins will likely be playing the New York Rangers. My hope is that this series will be aired on TSN so that I can take advantage of their games on-demand feature and watch the morning after.

In short, I am a very happy Bruins fan today, but this is just the first step. 12 more W’s to go!

Here’s the Bruin victory dance!

Thanks for the picture this morning. Makes a great desktop image. 12 more games and UI will have a picture of the Bruins and the Stanley Cup.
    Have a great day
